Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has voiced serious concerns about renewed violence in Manipur, urging the Government of India to intervene to find a political solution. Sangma emphasized the complexity of the situation, citing historical and communal conflicts.
Amid the escalating violence, the Manipur government has imposed a ban on internet services from Tuesday to prevent the spread of disinformation through social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. The ban will remain effective until September 15.
The official notice stated that the restrictions are necessary to prevent serious disturbances to public order and communal harmony. The decision aims to curb inflammatory material and false rumors that could lead to damage to public or private property and endanger lives.
