Hezbollah Retaliates With Over 320 Rockets Against Israel
Hezbollah launched over 320 rockets at Israel in retaliation for the assassination of a senior commander in Beirut. Israel's response included airstrikes in Lebanon. The escalation follows heightened tensions and a missile strike in the Golan Heights last month. Regional conflict fears have been triggered.
Hezbollah launched hundreds of rockets and drones against Israel on Sunday as a response to the assassination of a senior commander in Beirut last month, the Iranian-backed movement confirmed. Concurrently, Israel's cabinet convened to prepare its response.
According to the Israeli military, jets hit targets in Lebanon shortly before the barrage began, as they had assessed Hezbollah's plans. Hezbollah reported firing more than 320 Katyusha rockets at Israel, impacting 11 military targets. This marks only the 'first phase' of their response, promising more to come.
In anticipation of escalating tensions, Israel's cabinet met at 7 a.m. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his officials emphasized a defensive stance, avoiding full-scale war but prepared to act against developments on the ground. Consequently, the conflict has raised fears of a wider regional clash, potentially involving global powers like the U.S. and Iran.
