The Allahabad High Court paused the execution of the sentence given to AAP leader Sanjay Singh by the MP-MLA court in Sultanpur for a 2001 street-protest case.
The special court, on January 11 last year, sentenced Singh to three months of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,500 for obstructing a public road and inciting violence during the protest in Sultanpur.
On Wednesday, the Lucknow bench of the High Court ruled that Singh need not surrender before the Sultanpur court until its decision on his bail plea, scheduled for hearing on Thursday. The bench passed this order on a revision petition filed by Singh, questioning the special court's January 11, 2023 decision.
