The National Green Tribunal has fined the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) CEO Rs 10,000 for not complying with its directive to file a report on the efficiency of sewage treatment plants (STPs) installed along the Yamuna river.

The green panel was reviewing the performance of the STPs. In a recent order, a bench led by NGT Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava noted that the tribunal had requested submissions from various bodies, including the DJB, National Mission for Clean Ganga, Delhi Pollution Control Committee, and the Central Pollution Control Board. All except the DJB had complied.

Despite repeated notices, DJB neither submitted a reply nor made an appearance, according to the bench, which also included Judicial Member Justice Arun Kumar Tyagi and Expert Member A Senthil Vel. Consequently, the tribunal imposed the fine, requiring the DJB CEO to deposit the amount with the registrar general of the NGT within two weeks. Further proceedings are scheduled for November 22.
