The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has granted a one-month extension to access providers to comply with its directive issued on August 20 regarding the whitelisting of URLs, APKs, and OTT links. The modified compliance date is now set for October 1, 2024.

This regulatory move aims to mitigate the misuse of headers and content templates, thereby enhancing the security and efficiency of the telecom ecosystem. The Ministry of Communications stated that the timeline for implementing call-back numbers, however, would be determined separately after addressing the issues raised by access providers.

TRAI has instructed all access providers to submit an updated status report within fifteen days and a complete compliance report within thirty days of the directive's issue date. This initiative is part of broader efforts to protect consumer interests and prevent fraudulent activities in the telecom sector.
