In a significant move, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has imposed a penalty of Rs 10 lakh on Air India Express for failing to compensate passengers for cancelled flights.
The DGCA conducted an inspection in June as part of its Annual Surveillance Programme (ASP) 2024, which highlighted several non-compliance issues relating to passenger facilities and compensation requirements against Air India Express.
Following the inspection, a show cause notice was issued to the airline. Upon review, the DGCA found that Air India Express had not adhered to the mandatory provisions of CAR Section-3, Series M, Part IV, resulting in the financial penalty.
