Russia Claims Control of Key Logistics Hub in Eastern Ukraine Amid Ongoing Conflict
The Russian military reported capturing the strategic logistics hub of Niu-York in eastern Ukraine. The claim, which Reuters could not independently verify, highlights the ongoing efforts by Russian forces to secure the Donetsk region. Ukrainian forces continue to engage in heavy combat in the same area.
The Russian military announced on Tuesday that they have seized control of Niu-York, a pivotal logistics hub in eastern Ukraine. This development is part of Russia's larger strategy to fully capture the Donetsk region.
Despite Ukrainian forces making advancements in Russia's Kursk region following a surprise attack on August 6, Niu-York's fate underscores that Russian troops continue their offensive in Eastern Ukraine. The control of this logistics hub, known in Russia as Novgorodskoye, marks a significant shift in the ongoing conflict.
Ukrainian military forces have yet to confirm the current status of Niu-York, a settlement with pre-war population figures close to 10,000. The region remains a flashpoint, with heavy fighting reported in various sectors, including Niu-York. In a recent video, a Russian-backed official showed the Russian flag being raised over an administrative building in the area.
