UN Reports Record Deaths of Aid Workers Amid Global Conflicts

The United Nations disclosed that 280 aid workers lost their lives globally in 2023, more than double the 118 deaths reported the previous year. These deaths primarily occurred after the Israel-Hamas war commenced on October 7.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres highlighted the peril aid workers face, mentioning Sudan among other conflict zones. He demanded justice for the perpetrators of such attacks.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs noted that this year might record even higher casualties, with 172 aid workers killed by August 7. The violence in Sudan and South Sudan has played a significant role in these tragic statistics.
