US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan met with a prominent Chinese defense official on Thursday morning to boost communication, aiming to avoid conflicts over Taiwan and the South China Sea.
This high-level meeting occurred one day after the White House announced plans for an upcoming call between Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden.
During the meeting, Zhang Youxia, vice chairman of the Central Military Commission, highlighted the importance of their interaction. Sullivan stressed the necessity of responsibly managing US-China relations. The three-day trip marks Sullivan's first visit to China as a national security adviser, focusing on maintaining open communication and stabilizing relations.
