BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla has accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of being 'cruel' and prioritizing 'destroying evidence, hiding the truth, and saving rapists' over protecting daughters. The criticism comes amid protests related to the alleged rape and murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata.
Poonawalla demanded Banerjee's resignation, stating, 'Mamata Banerjee has only proved to be cruel. Her government has indulged in 'saboot mitao, satya ko chhupao, balatkari bachao' instead of 'beti bachao.' She can't save herself today on a sympathy card. She will have to take accountability.'
Banerjee, amid ongoing protests by junior doctors, expressed her readiness to resign. She emphasized her priority is justice for the victim and medical services for the public, apologizing to the public and assuring no action against protesting doctors. 'I waited 3 days for them. Even when they didn't accept the Supreme Court's verdict, I waited. I apologize to the people. We want justice for the victims and treatment for common people,' she said.
