The Madhya Pradesh High Court on Saturday mandated striking doctors to cease their protest over the brutal rape and murder of a young doctor in Kolkata and return to their duties.
Doctors statewide had halted work, except for emergency services, following the nationwide protest. The court issued notices to several medical associations after a petitioner included them as respondents.
The court accepted an undertaking from the Junior Doctors Association, Bhopal, to withdraw the strike immediately. Acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva and Justice Raj Mohan urged quick action, while hearing a petition by Anshul Tiwari from Narsinghpur challenging the strike.
Advocate Mahendra Pateria assured that grievances would be addressed in the next court session. He emphasized that patient care shouldn't be compromised.
Additional Advocate General H S Ruprah highlighted a Union government directive ensuring swift institutional FIRs in cases of violence against healthcare workers. The High Court scheduled the next hearing for August 20, with the state IMA promising to respond promptly.
