Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi on Saturday emphasized the need for the Centre's intervention in West Bengal, attributing the state's compromised law and order situation to the recent rape and murder of a doctor.
Expressing criticism towards West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Manjhi condemned her administration's failure in curbing hoodlum activities, particularly during a demonstration held to protest the heinous crime.
Manjhi questioned Banerjee's recent actions, stating, 'It was absurd that Banerjee chose to take out a procession herself yesterday. The entire administration is under her control. Against whom was she staging a protest?' Banerjee has been advocating for the death penalty for the accused, a case that the CBI took over a week ago following a Calcutta High Court order.
Despite Banerjee's efforts, Manjhi believes that recent events indicate her inability to maintain law and order in the state, necessitating the Centre's intervention. Notably, Manjhi's stance aligns with the BJP's demand for president's rule in West Bengal, further fueling political tension in the region.
