Maharashtra Director General of Police (DGP) Rashmi Shukla highlighted the urgent need for increased awareness to combat cyber frauds during the launch of Navi Mumbai Police's WhatsApp channel and helpline services on Wednesday.
This initiative is part of a pilot project aimed at educating citizens on preventing cyber crimes, focusing on various issues including women's safety, narcotics, and police services. Addressing the media, Shukla identified lack of awareness as a significant factor contributing to the rise in cyber crimes and advised against sharing sensitive information or clicking on unknown links.
The project's success, according to Shukla, will be measured by public engagement and collaboration with the police. Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner Milind Bhrambe noted that the new WhatsApp channel would feature educational content and a 24x7 helpline for immediate assistance.
