The opening matches of the Solheim Cup saw sparse attendance at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club due to transportation issues that left fans stranded. Many supporters took to social media to express frustration about being stuck in long lines for buses, prompting an apology from the LPGA Tour.
"We recognize and deeply apologize to all fans affected by the challenges with shuttling from parking to the golf course," the LPGA statement said. "We've made significant changes to our transportation system to mitigate these issues moving forward." Fans also reported locked portable restrooms at the parking site, compounding their frustrations.
Despite efforts to resolve the situation, only a trickle of fans were present at the grandstand when the matches began. U.S. captain Stacy Lewis acknowledged the disappointment, while the LPGA announced plans to increase shuttle buses and move volunteer parking to better accommodate the fans.
