Mumbai police have apprehended a man from Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh for allegedly molesting a 13-year-old girl on August 25. The accused, identified as Mohammed Zeeshan Mohammed, aged 21, worked for a private bus agency and was arrested on Wednesday.

According to an official from MHB police station, the incident occurred when the young girl, daughter of the complainant, was returning from a nearby grocery store. Zeeshan allegedly molested her, prompting the girl to alert her family, who then registered a case at the local police station. Senior police inspector Sudhir Kudalkar led the investigation, which revealed that Zeeshan did not possess a mobile phone.

Investigations further found that many villagers from Zeeshan's hometown lived in Mumbai's Antop Hill area. Zeeshan had contacted a relative in Dahisar using an unfamiliar number, falsely claiming he was in Borivali. However, police located the mobile number in Nashik. By tracking multiple phone locations, officers found Zeeshan traveling by train to Uttar Pradesh. Local police in Prayagraj assisted in his detainment, and he was subsequently brought back to Mumbai and arrested.

The accused has been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
