The Supreme Court has decided to hear a fresh petition submitted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) challenging the Allahabad High Court's acquittal of Surendra Koli in the notorious 2006 Nithari serial killings case.

A bench of Justices B R Gavai and K V Viswanathan has tagged the CBI's plea with other pending petitions against the high court's verdict from October 16, 2024.

Previously, the Supreme Court had agreed to hear separate pleas filed by both the CBI and the Uttar Pradesh government contesting the high court ruling, and also sought a response from Koli.
