Trump Lawyers Push to Halt Hush Money Case Proceedings Amid Federal Court Appeal
Former President Donald Trump's legal team is seeking to halt proceedings in his New York hush money criminal case, aiming to delay next month's sentencing while they challenge the conviction in federal court. They argue that the verdict was tainted by constitutional violations and the Supreme Court's recent ruling on presidential immunity.
Former President Donald Trump's legal team is making a significant push to halt proceedings in his New York hush money criminal case, aiming to indefinitely postpone next month's sentencing.
In a letter to the state court judge, they requested a hold on the decision slated for September 16 regarding Trump's request to overturn the verdict following the U.S. Supreme Court's presidential immunity ruling.
Trump's lawyers also urged Judge Juan M. Merchan to delay the September 18 sentencing while the U.S. District Court in Manhattan considers their request to take over the case, alleging violations of Trump's constitutional rights. The Manhattan district attorney's office has opposed these efforts.
