The unfortunate event unfolded in Sultanpur village, within the Industrial police station's jurisdiction, late Sunday night as the pilgrims were en route to Baba Harihar Nath Temple in Sonepur for Jalabhishekh rituals.

Sub-divisional Officer Rambabu Baitha confirmed the casualties and injuries, adding that the injured are in stable condition. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, and an investigation is underway to determine any lapses.
