The Kannada Development Authority (KDA) has issued a call to Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, urging the issuance of an order that mandates doctors in all government-run health centers and hospitals to write prescriptions in Kannada, the state's official language.
KDA chairperson Purushotham Bilimale proposed annual recognitions for doctors who show a commitment to the Kannada language on Doctors' Day at the taluk, district, and state levels. In a letter to Minister Rao, Bilimale emphasized the need to foster an environment where even doctors in private hospitals are motivated to use Kannada.
Bilimale highlighted a recent instance during an official visit to Raichur, where government doctors were motivated to start writing prescriptions in Kannada. He noted that the initiative has already gained voluntary support from hundreds of doctors. If the government makes it mandatory, it would be a significant step towards safeguarding the Kannada language.
