Karnataka CM Announces Rs 5 Lakh Compensation for Landslide Victims
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the families of Kannadigas who died in landslides in Kerala. At least six Kannadigas are feared dead. Rescue operations are ongoing with involvement from senior officials, NDRF, and army teams. Karnataka Labour Minister is overseeing the efforts.

On Wednesday, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah declared a Rs 5 lakh compensation for the families of Kannadigas who tragically lost their lives in landslides in Kerala. As of now, at least six individuals from Karnataka are feared dead from the calamity.
'The death toll in the Wayanad landslide has been escalating. The loss of Kannadiga lives in this disaster is particularly heart-wrenching,' expressed the CM in a social media post on 'X'.
'Families of the deceased will receive a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each. I offer my heartfelt prayers for the souls of those who passed away,' Siddaramaiah stated.
He highlighted that two senior IAS officers, along with the National Disaster Response Force team and army units, are actively involved in rescue operations in Wayanad. Karnataka Labour Minister Santosh Lad has also been deployed to oversee the rescue and relief activities.
'Our primary objective is to save the lives of the affected. Our government is committed to ensuring the safe return of distressed Kannadigas to Karnataka,' the CM added.
