Rodrygo's Versatility: A Blessing or a Curse?

Brazilian footballer Rodrygo attributes his omission from the Ballon d'Or shortlist to his versatile role at Real Madrid. Despite scoring 17 goals and providing nine assists in 51 games last season, the 23-year-old forward believes constantly filling different positions may have hindered his recognition.

Brazilian footballer Rodrygo believes his versatile on-field role could be the reason for his exclusion from the Ballon d'Or shortlist. The Real Madrid forward, who scored 17 goals and registered nine assists in 51 appearances last season, was notably absent from the prestigious list.

Rodrygo's versatility allows him to play on the right, left, or as a centre forward, often being used as a second striker by coach Carlo Ancelotti. Despite his multifaceted contributions, his Madrid teammates like Vinicius Jr, Jude Bellingham, and Kylian Mbappe were nominated, leaving him disappointed.

'I was upset, I think I deserved it,' Rodrygo told ESPN. 'I don't want to belittle the players who are there; they deserved it also. But I think I had a place in the 30. It was a surprise but there is not much I can do as I'm not the one who decides these things.'
