Three policemen, including a sub-inspector, have been charged with extorting Rs 19 lakh from a college student running an online delivery portal by threatening to frame him in a false OTP fraud case, authorities confirmed on Wednesday.
The accused officers, Sub-inspector Brijesh Redhu, Head Constables Satish Kumar, and Anil Yadav, are stationed at Cyber Police Station in West Delhi's Hari Nagar and face charges under various sections of the extortion law and the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The complaint, filed by the student, detailed that in March last year, the officers coerced him, his brother, and a friend into paying Rs 25 lakh to avoid arrest. Allegedly, the policemen subjected them to verbal and physical abuse and harassment using inappropriate comments. An inquiry is ongoing following the registration of an FIR.
