In a significant political development, five Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) councillors from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have defected to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The switch was made public during a media briefing headed by Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva.

Sachdeva claimed that the councillors had been under immense pressure to participate in corrupt activities and rally crowds for AAP leaders. The defectors include Ramchandra (Ward 28), Pawan Sehrawat (Ward 30), Mamata Pawan (Ward 177), Sugandha Bidhuri (Ward 178), and Manju Nirmal (Ward 180).

Senior BJP leaders, including MPs Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, Yogender Chandolia, and Arvinder Singh Lovely, were present at the event, signaling the party's strategic focus on expanding its influence in Delhi's local governance.
