The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Anti-Corruption Branch announced Sunday that substantial evidence has been uncovered in their corruption probe against former RG Kar Medical College principal Sandeep Ghosh. When asked about concrete evidence, a CBI official remarked, "...there is a lot."

The CBI initiated a corruption investigation against Ghosh by filing an FIR on Saturday. Previously, the Calcutta High Court transferred the investigation of financial irregularities, initially handled by a Special Investigation Team (SIT), to the CBI on Friday.

This decision followed a petition by Akhtar Ali, the hospital's former deputy superintendent, accusing Ghosh of financial misconduct and unethical practices. The High Court assigned the CBI to lead the probe, as it is also investigating the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the hospital. The Court has given the CBI three weeks to present a progress report, due September 17.

Additionally, CBI officials conducted a polygraph test on Sanjay Roy, arrested in connection with the trainee doctor's rape and murder in Kolkata. Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar and BJP workers protested the incident at Shyambazar today.

In a related development, Parimal Dey, a teacher from Alipurduar honored with the Banga Ratna award in 2019, announced he would return the award in response to the state government's handling of the RG Kar Medical College incident. Dey stated, "My conscience dictates that I should give it back. I support the protest."

Moreover, the West Bengal Motion Picture Artists' Forum protested in Tollygunge, demanding justice for the rape-murder victim and urging the Kolkata administration to take responsibility. On Tuesday, the Supreme Court ordered the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to take over the security of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital while hearing the suo motu case concerning the trainee doctor's rape and murder.

The trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9.
