Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government announced a nationwide curfew across Bangladesh on Friday, deploying military forces to restore order after deadly skirmishes over government job allocations.
The announcement, made by Awami League party general secretary Obaidul Quader, came in the aftermath of violence in which police fired on demonstrators and prohibited all gatherings in the capital. Fatalities were reported by media outlets.
Quader confirmed that military forces were mobilized to support civilian administration in maintaining peace.
