The West Bengal government has responded to demands from junior doctors by reassigning three senior officials at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The move comes amid protests over the alleged rape and murder of a female postgraduate trainee at the state-run health facility.

RG Kar Medical College's former principal, Dr. Sandip Ghosh, was also removed from his subsequent position at Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital, Health Secretary NS Nigam announced. The three officials were transferred to other state-run facilities.

As per a recent order, Prof. Bulbul Mukhopadhyay was replaced as Medical Superintendent and Vice Principal by Saptarshi Chatterjee. Manas Kumar Bandyopadhyay has taken over as the new principal from Suhrita Paul, who has been reassigned to Barasat Government Medical College and Hospital. Additionally, RGKMCH's chest medicine department head, Arunabha Datta Chaudhuri, was moved to Malda Medical College and Hospital.

''We aim to restore normalcy and regularize healthcare services while meeting the demands of the junior doctors,'' Nigam told reporters. Enhanced security measures have also been implemented. The junior doctors at RGKMCH have been on strike since August 9, demanding justice for the deceased medic.
