AIIMS Delhi has announced a comprehensive security audit in response to a wave of doctor protests demanding workplace safety. This follows the tragic rape and murder of a woman trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. AIIMS' spokesperson, Dr. Rima Dada, stated that Director M Srinivas assured enhanced security measures, forming two committees to address immediate concerns and conduct an internal security review.
Dr. Dada urged the protesting resident doctors to return to work, emphasizing the plight of thousands of patients who travel long distances for treatment daily. The spokesperson highlighted that AIIMS serves 18,000 to 20,000 patients daily, many of whom are currently facing difficulties due to the ongoing protests.
To bolster security, AIIMS has deployed 2,900 security guards and installed AI-equipped CCTV cameras at key entry and exit points. The advanced surveillance system aims to identify suspicious individuals proactively. This step comes amid wider national protests by medical professionals seeking safer working environments. FAIMA has sought interim protection for doctors and lauded the Supreme Court's recent actions forming a National Task Force to recommend safety protocols for healthcare workers.
