Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reiterated the Mahayuti government's commitment to legally address the encroachments at Vishalgad fort following recent violence triggered during an anti-encroachment drive.

Fadnavis also affirmed that the government aims to remove encroachments from all forts across the state. He highlighted that the longstanding issue at Vishalgad resurfaced after former Rajya Sabha member Chhatrapati Sambhajiraje raised his voice against illegal structures.

The anti-encroachment drive at Vishalgad Fort in Kolhapur district turned violent when a mob clashed with police, leading to 21 arrests. On Tuesday, Maha Vikas Aghadi leaders visited the site, urging the state to ensure peace and adhere to legal frameworks in removing encroachments. Fadnavis called on Opposition leaders to clarify their stance on the issue, emphasizing the need to preserve historical sites while addressing illegal constructions.
