The Indian government has greenlit a Rs 3,307-crore semiconductor plant in Sanand, Gujarat, aimed at producing 6.3 million chips daily. The announcement was made following a Union Cabinet meeting, with IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stating that a comprehensive semiconductor ecosystem is evolving under the India Semiconductor Mission.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi remarked that the new unit is a significant step toward establishing India as a semiconductor hub. The facility, expected to foster job creation and serve diverse sectors including power, automotive, and consumer electronics, is a foundational endeavor for the country's industrial strategy.

Vaishnaw compared the semiconductor industry to pivotal sectors like steel and chemicals, essential for broad industrial growth. He also noted positive developments in Tata's complex semiconductor project in Dholera, Gujarat, emphasizing the sector's long-term growth potential and its crucial role in India's Make-in-India campaign.
