A tragic incident in Kolhapur district has the community in shock after a minor girl was found dead on Thursday morning, with suspicions of sexual assault before the murder.

The young girl, whose family is originally from Bihar, reportedly left her home on Wednesday evening following a scolding from her uncle over excessive mobile phone use, according to police.

When the girl did not return home, her family launched a frantic search and ultimately lodged a missing person's complaint at the local police station. Her body was discovered in the morning by locals just 800 meters from her home in a sugarcane field in Shiye village, under Karvir taluka.

The police mentioned that the girl's parents are industrial workers at the Shiroli MIDC area. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and further investigations are underway. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, overseeing the home portfolio, indicated that initial police findings suggest the girl suffered sexual assault before being killed.

Fadnavis, speaking to reporters, affirmed that some suspects have been detained and stressed on delivering thorough justice. 'We will go to the bottom of this case and the perpetrators will face strict action,' he assured, promising full support for the grieving family. This incident follows closely on the heels of another case involving the sexual abuse of two minor girls by a school attendant in Thane district's Badlapur town.
