The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a plea by the Delhi Medical Association (DMA) seeking enhanced protection measures for doctors from violence, asserting that existing legal provisions are adequate.
A bench comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna, Sanjay Karol, and Sanjay Kumar recommended DMA approach appropriate forums in specific cases of violence.
Justice Khanna noted the presence of laws against violence, recounting placards in hospitals highlighting the severity of offenses against doctors. The bench emphasized that preventive measures were the crux, particularly in rural hospitals where security is deficient.
