In response to the RG Kar rape and murder incident, the Supreme Court has established a 10-member National Task Force (NTF) to formulate safety protocols for medical professionals. The incident, involving a trainee woman doctor in Kolkata, spurred the apex court to take suo motu cognisance and initiate action.
On Thursday, the Union Health Ministry issued an office memorandum announcing the creation of four theme-based sub-groups under the NTF. These groups are tasked with focusing on critical areas such as strengthening medical infrastructure, security systems, and working conditions, along with enhancing the legal framework for healthcare professionals across all states.
The sub-groups will engage with various stakeholders and compile inputs from state governments and medical institutions through an online portal. Their recommendations, to be submitted within three weeks, will inform an action plan by the NTF. Central aims include prevention of violence, implementation of security measures, and ensuring dignified working conditions for all medical professionals.
