The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has secured a narrow majority in the Rajya Sabha, supported by six nominated members. This slender lead is crucial for the passage of significant legislations, including the Waqf (Amendment) Bill.

Following recent by-elections, the Rajya Sabha's effective strength stands at 234, with the BJP holding 96 seats. The NDA coalition's total rises to 113 members, which, when combined with the six nominated members, reaches 119—two more than the required majority mark of 117.

Opposition parties, led by the Congress with 27 members and their allies contributing 58 seats, total 85 members. Key undecided parties include the YSR Congress Party with nine members and BJD with seven members. Independent MPs and smaller party representatives also contribute to the balance of power in the Upper House, which currently holds 241 effective members due to 11 vacancies.
