Resident doctors in Maharashtra withdrew their agitation on Thursday following assurances from the state government to take measures for their security. This decision comes 10 days after they initiated the strike, demanding better workplace conditions in response to the brutal rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde assured resident doctors that the government would prioritize their security at the workplace. Following this assurance, the Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) announced the end of their agitation. The association emphasized that the strike aimed at advocating for justice for the Kolkata victim and better conditions for doctors in Maharashtra.

During the strike, resident doctors refrained from attending non-emergency medical services at public hospitals. Shinde also assured action on their demands for hostel facilities and regular stipend payments. A comprehensive review of security at government medical colleges and hospitals has been directed, with plans to appoint police officers for coordination.

The CM stressed the importance of providing adequate security and accommodation for resident doctors, highlighting that their dedication to service warrants proper facilities. Coordination among related departments and the Chief Minister's Office was highlighted as crucial to implement the necessary measures efficiently.

Asking the PWD and BMC to take buildings on rent for hostels and reviewing renovations and security installations, Shinde emphasized the need for a standard operating procedure. The meeting concluded with decisions to enhance safety protocols for medical officers and comprehensive coordination among agencies.
