West Bengal Minister Shashi Panja has denounced what she referred to as 'vulture politics' by opposition parties over the tragic rape and murder case involving a doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Panja asserted that political gain should not come at the expense of justice for the victim. 'The opposition should not play vulture politics over a person who has passed away and was a victim of rape,' she stated.

Panja criticised the protesters who gathered outside the Women's Commission office but did not show up at the CGO complex where the CBI is conducting its investigation. 'Their aim is not justice for the victim but to do politics over it,' she charged, while also questioning the opposition's challenge to the 'Aparajita Woman and Child Bill (West Bengal Criminal Laws and Amendment) 2024.'

Amid claims that Kolkata Police offered money to the victim's family to suppress the case, Panja called for a swift and thorough investigation by the CBI. 'A lot of fake videos are circulating, and such acts are an injustice to the victim,' she said. The deceased doctor's aunt also accused Kolkata Police of abandoning the family after initially surrounding them with 300-400 personnel until the last rites were performed.
