Doctors End Protest After Supreme Court Intervention
Doctors at PGIMER ended their 11-day protest against the rape and murder of a colleague in Kolkata after a Supreme Court appeal. The SC directed the Centre to ensure safety measures for doctors. Doctors at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) concluded their 11-day protest on Thursday. The protest was in response to the rape and murder of a medic in Kolkata.
The strike ended following an impassioned appeal from the Supreme Court, which urged the medics to return to work and tasked the Centre with providing safety measures.
PGIMER authorities announced that all elective services would resume immediately, while emergency services had remained operational throughout the protest. The Supreme Court assured the doctors that no adverse action would be taken for the strike.
