Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has revealed that 459 km of damaged roads in Bengaluru have been repaired this year. The IT hub, which has a total of 1,611 km of arterial and sub-arterial roads, will see further asphalting of 659.71 km starting November.
The Brihat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palika (BBMP) has implemented a batch mix unit to expedite pothole repairs. The CM highlighted that road deterioration is often due to various underground installations, such as BESCOM cables, water and sewerage pipes, and optical fiber cables.
To tackle this, Siddaramaiah has coordinated with different departments and ordered the closure of dug-up pits. A grant of Rs 15 lakh per ward has been released, and a new app, 'Raste Gundi Mhantan,' will allow residents to monitor repair progress. Additionally, the state has approved Rs 1,700 crore for a white-topping project to reduce potholes.
