In a significant counter-terror operation, the Indian Army, in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt by terrorists in the Nowshera sector. The operation came following intelligence inputs received since August 30, 2024, indicating terrorist activities in the region.
According to Lt Col Suneel Bartwal, a defence spokesperson based in Jammu, comprehensive surveillance measures were employed to monitor all likely infiltration routes. Ground-based and aerial assets, alongside area domination patrols, were deployed frequently to track and prevent terrorist movements. On the evening of September 8, surveillance teams spotted suspicious activities around 7:30 pm, leading to an intense overnight firefight.
During the exchange, which lasted through the night, two terrorists were neutralized. UAVs, night cameras, and other high-tech surveillance tools were instrumental in maintaining visual contact with the intruders. Subsequent search operations on September 9 uncovered a significant cache of weapons, including AK-47 rifles, an M-4 rifle with sight, and a pistol. The operation highlighted the coordinated efforts of the Indian Army, JK Police, and intelligence agencies to secure the area. Search operations continue to ensure complete security.
