The Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) is taking significant strides to enhance student safety in its jurisdiction. The urban local body has recently installed 200 CCTV cameras across 36 municipal schools, ensuring real-time surveillance for around 10,000 students. This initiative is part of a broader strategy aligned with the Maharashtra Government's resolution to bolster student security.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde inaugurated the facility via video conferencing, emphasizing that safety measures should not only be implemented but also deeply felt by the students and their parents. MBMC Commissioner Sanjay Katkar, along with other dignitaries, highlighted the proactive measures being taken, including staff character and aptitude tests to ensure overall student wellbeing.
A key feature of this initiative is the Central School Command Centre (CSCC), capable of overseeing 1,000 cameras in real-time, offering continuous monitoring from 7 AM to 5 PM daily. Plans to extend this coverage to private schools are also in the pipeline, marking a significant advancement in school safety protocols in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
