In a bid to enhance passenger safety, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Wednesday that multiple surveillance cameras will be installed on all trains. The move comes in response to several incidents where derailment attempts are suspected.
According to Vaishnaw, cameras will be positioned at the front, rear, and sides of the engine and guard coach, as well as on cattle guards and bogies. A tender for the installation process will be floated within three months, ensuring comprehensive coverage across all trains.
In addition to the cameras, a central data center will be established to store the footage. The Railway administration is also coordinating with police chiefs of various states to improve vigilance and intelligence networks for railway track safety.
