NHSRCL Advances Bullet Train Project with Noise Barrier Installation

The National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) is progressing on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project with the installation of noise barriers along the corridor. By September 10, 87.5 km of barriers were installed in Gujarat to mitigate train-generated noise. Three factories manufacture these barriers in Surat, Anand, and Ahmedabad.

The National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) continues to make strides in the ambitious Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project, announcing on Tuesday that installation work for noise barriers is actively in progress along the corridor.

As of September 10, noise barriers spanning 87.5 km have been installed, incorporating over 1,75,000 units across Gujarat, according to NHSRCL's press release. The report specifies that approximately 2000 noise barriers are erected per kilometer on either side of the viaduct. The modular elements are produced in precast factories located in Surat, Anand, and Ahmedabad.

The NHRSCL revealed that each barrier is a 2-meter high concrete panel with a width of 1 meter, and weighs between 830 to 840 kg. They are engineered to reflect and distribute aerodynamic and structural noise from the train, ensuring an unobstructed view for passengers. In densely populated urban areas, the barriers will extend an additional meter using translucent polycarbonate material.
