An idol of Lord Ganesh was damaged after some minors allegedly threw stones at a pandal during the Ganpati festival in Surat, Gujarat, leading to violence that injured several people including police officers, according to officials on Monday.

A mob of 200-300 persons gathered at Lalgate police station to protest the detainment of the juveniles, sparking further unrest and resulting in stones being thrown and vehicles being set on fire, said Surat Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gahlaut.
