Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla on Wednesday accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of being a 'dictator' for allegedly deploying excessive force against protesters. Poonawalla asserted that under Banerjee's rule, the common people are unsafe while perpetrators of violence thrive.
Poonawalla criticized the actions taken during the Nabanna Abhiyan, where students faced batons, water cannons, and tear gas. He claimed that protesters were derogatorily labeled by members of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and called for support for the 12-hour 'Bengal Bandh' to demonstrate public dissent.
Further pressing for a thorough investigation into the police's conduct, Poonawalla highlighted reports of gunfire directed at a BJP leader's vehicle. Sharing her concern, BJP MP Hema Malini urged Banerjee to ensure justice for the victims, emphasizing the nation's collective demand for prompt and just action.
