CPI(M) leader Kalatan Dasgupta was among two individuals arrested for allegedly conspiring to attack protesting junior doctors, police announced on Saturday.
The arrests came after TMC leader Kunal Ghosh released an audio clip purportedly revealing a plan to undermine the Mamata Banerjee government by targeting the protesters outside Swashtya Bhawan in Salt Lake.
Following the release of the clip on Friday, police registered a suo motu case and arrested Dasgupta from the protest site in Sector 5 and another individual, Sanjiv Das, from South Kolkata's Haltu.
The protesting medics, who have been stationed outside the state Health Department's headquarters since Tuesday, are demanding improved security at state-run hospitals and the removal of top officials after a recent incident involving the rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
