Odisha Police on Monday unearthed a SIM box racket in Cuttack, a senior police official announced. The breakthrough came after a series of raids ignited by the arrest of Raju Mandal.
Police Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda revealed that five operational SIM boxes and 236 active SIMs were seized in Cuttack. The previous setup in Bhubaneswar followed a similar pattern, involving the same primary suspect, Raju Mandal, orchestrated by Bangladeshi national Ashdur Jamman. The scheme's purpose is believed to be masking international calls as local calls for various criminal activities.
Authorities plan to extend their investigation to Ranchi with the aid of local police to locate another SIM box. They are also pursuing Ashdur Jamman through Interpol to broaden their crackdown on the racket.
