BJP national spokesperson CR Kesavan has called for the resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to guarantee an impartial investigation into the rape and murder of a doctor at a Kolkata hospital. He said the Supreme Court is addressing the matter, and the state's Governor has sought a meeting with the Law Minister.
Kesavan criticized Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi for her silence on the incident. He questioned her lack of condemnation for the TMC government, which he accused of suppressing calls for justice. Kesavan urged Gandhi to speak out, comparing the situation to one of the darkest periods in India's democracy.
Referring to the victim's parents, Kesavan said they no longer trust Banerjee, alleging that the Kolkata Police are trying to cover up the crime. He added that the incident has caused a rift within the Trinamool Congress. In response to public outcry, Kolkata police have imposed Section 163 of the BNSS around RG Kar Medical College and Hospital for a week, starting from August 18, to maintain law and order.
