The Assam government, spearheaded by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has initiated the issuance of birth certificates and Aadhaar cards for newborns at all its medical colleges. The announcement was made on Friday, coinciding with the 78th Independence Day.

A total of 12 medical colleges have now established birth certificate and Aadhaar enrolment centres. This new process aims to streamline and simplify the registration process, ensuring hassle-free documentation for newborns.

Chief Minister Sarma further indicated that this move is a result of the recently convened District Commissioner Conference. On a related note, earlier in the week, Sarma also distributed land pattas to residents of four villages in the Kamrup district, addressing long-standing issues related to land ownership and access to financial services.
