Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, now facing prosecution over the alleged MUDA scam, asserted on Saturday that he has the complete backing of his State cabinet. 'The entire Cabinet, party high command, all MLAs, MLCs, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs are with me,' he briefly told reporters.
The Karnataka government announced that it will challenge Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot's decision to permit Siddaramaiah's prosecution in the High Court. According to Raj Bhavan sources, the Governor granted the prosecution permission today.
Despite the allegations, Siddaramaiah maintains that 'everything was done according to the law.' Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar reaffirmed the government's support, stating they will fight the charges both legally and politically. 'This is nothing but a clear conspiracy against a backwards-class CM who is running the government for the second time,' Shivakumar stated.
Conversely, the BJP has intensified calls for the Chief Minister's resignation to ensure an impartial investigation. 'The CM must resign to make way for an impartial investigation,' asserted BJP MP Tejasvi Surya. State BJP President BY Vijayendra defended the Governor's decision, noting that Gehlot had acted within his constitutional powers. Social activist Snehamayi Krishna had previously filed a complaint against Siddaramaiah and nine others for allegedly forging documents to claim compensation from the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA).
