Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has expressed grave concern over the rape and murder case of a doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The incident, which occurred on August 9, has been labeled a significant societal and security issue.

Speaking with reporters in Bhubaneshwar, Riiju emphasized the broader implications of the incident. 'The safety of medical staff is not just a local but a national concern,' he stated, highlighting the agitation among the general public and medical community.

Rijiju was in Bhubaneshwar for the inauguration of an orientation program for newly elected MLAs of the Odisha Legislative Assembly. Meanwhile, West Bengal BJP President and Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar assured that the case, now under CBI investigation, would be thoroughly probed, provided no tampering with the evidence occurred. Protests continue nationwide as doctors demand justice and better security laws.

The Central Bureau of Investigation took over the case per the Calcutta High Court's orders. The heinous crime sparked nationwide strikes and protests by the medical fraternity seeking justice for the victim and calling for enhanced security measures for healthcare workers. (ANI)
