The Supreme Court is set to hear Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's plea challenging his arrest and bail application in connection with the controversial excise policy case on Wednesday, August 14. The case will be heard by a bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan.

Earlier, the Delhi High Court dismissed Kejriwal's petition against his arrest, recommending that he seek bail from the trial court. The High Court noted that the prosecution had gathered extensive evidence against numerous individuals, respecting Kejriwal's position and demonstrated cautious proceedings in the investigation.

Chief Minister Kejriwal, in his plea, asserted that he faced persecution and harassment for political motives. While he was granted interim bail by the Supreme Court in a money laundering case on July 12, he had previously received regular bail from the trial court on June 20. The Rouse Avenue Court has granted the CBI 15 more days to obtain necessary sanctions for prosecuting individuals in the alleged excise scam, with the next hearing set for August 27. The CBI, having identified Kejriwal as a key figure in the scam, filed its final chargesheet on July 28.
